Safety - Safety - Safety

The first and best thing you can do for motorcycle and trike safety is to take a Motorcycle Training  course from the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation), in your area.  There are also specific courses for Trikes and Sidecar riders.  2 and 3 wheel training courses often offer several classes for beginner, intermediate, as well as advanced or instructor training.  Hey, these classes are really fun and you'll learn to control your ride with skill and finess.

Trikes and Sidecar rigs have completly different handling dynamics than a motorcycle.  Please use the training facilities to make you more aware and safe.

Take lessons from more experienced riders.  Watch carefully how the pass through intersections, pass cars, enter traffic and all aspects of navigation on the roadways. Learn the lessons of safety and ride according to those lessons on every single ride.  Every motorcycle and trike ride is an adventure and an exercise in survival.

Safety is a common element everyone strives to attain and build into any motorcycle or trike configeration.  From road regulations to safety clothing & rider gear and everything in between.

Motorcycle and trike maintenance is a primary safety issue you are responsible for.  Do check the basics before you ride: Tire pressure, visibility in mirrors, brake function, examine for any loose items, and do regular service maintenance according to your users manual - without fail.

If you ever have an accident, any impacted safety gear should be replaced.  Typically the materials designed to withstand and minimize injury work best once.  As in the case of helmets; an impact can damage the effectiveness of any future impact in the same area.

From the tires to the apparel you wear - safety is usually part of the creative process everyone tries to build into the motorcycle and trike industry as best as possible.  Safety features continue to develop and tend to be better as the industry expands.  Old style helmets cannot protect your head nearly as well as todays high strength composite materials and construction. Rider apparel is also a safety feature. Leathers or riding gear with impact armor, gloves and boots, even glasses are items you should use on every ride.

The safety of an individual motorcycle or trike would come from the materials used and method of assembly.  The frame and frame design would be the place to start.  There are a myarid of frame designs and they are all designed with safety in mind, but some designs will be stronger than others.  Frames are often designed with weight in mind.  A racing frame will be lighter and use different materials and a different configeration than a touring frame.
